Why Every Woman Needs a Stylist

And No, You Don’t Have to Be Rich

Welcome back to another Tipsy Tuesday—Where Style Meets Confidence, Career & Lifestyle.

Now, pour yourself something good, get comfortable, and let's have a conversation.

When you hear the words personal stylist, what comes to mind?

A celebrity preparing for the red carpet?

Someone with an unlimited shopping budget?

A closet filled with designer labels?

For years, personal styling has been presented as a luxury reserved for celebrities, executives, influencers, and people with money to spend.

But I'm here to challenge that idea.

Every woman can benefit from the knowledge of a stylist.

Not because every woman needs someone to dress her.

But because sometimes we all need someone to help us see ourselves—and our wardrobes—with a fresh perspective.

After more than 15 years in the fashion and retail industry, and now working every day as a Senior Stylist at AKIRA, one of the biggest things I've learned is that most women aren't struggling because they don't have enough clothes.

They're struggling because they don't know what to do with the clothes they have.

They buy pieces they love in the store but never wear them.

They have a closet full of clothes but still say, "I have nothing to wear."

They shop for individual moments instead of building a wardrobe.

They purchase the same style over and over because it feels safe.

Or they simply don't know what works for their body, lifestyle, career, or the woman they're becoming.

That's where a stylist comes in.

A Stylist Doesn't Just Pick Out Clothes

One of the biggest misconceptions about styling is that my job is simply to walk around a store and say:

"Try this."

"Try that."

"This is cute."

Anyone can tell you something is cute.

Styling goes deeper.

A good stylist listens.

Before I begin pulling pieces, I want to understand the woman I'm styling.

Where are you going?

What do you do for work?

What does your everyday life look like?

What do you already have in your closet?

What do you feel confident wearing?

What are you uncomfortable wearing?

What are you trying to communicate when you walk into a room?

And perhaps one of the most important questions:

Who are you becoming?

Because sometimes your wardrobe is still dressing the woman you used to be.

Your career has changed.

Your body has changed.

Your lifestyle has changed.

Your confidence has changed.

Your goals have changed.

But your closet hasn't caught up yet.

A stylist helps bridge that gap.

A Stylist don't just pick out clothes they build confidence.

You May Not Need More Clothes

Let me say that again.

You may not need more clothes.

You may simply need the right pieces.

This is one of the most important lessons I teach my clients.

Shopping without a plan can become expensive very quickly. You see something cute. You buy it. You take it home. You wear it once—or never—and eventually it becomes another piece taking up space in your closet.

That's not intentional shopping.

Before adding something new to your wardrobe, I want you to ask yourself:

Can I wear this at least three different ways?

Can those trousers work for the office, dinner, and a networking event?

Can that blazer be worn with a dress, denim, and a matching trouser?

Can that statement top work with something you already own?

This is where cost per wear becomes important.

A $100 blazer worn 25 times costs you $4 per wear.

A $40 dress worn once costs you $40 per wear.

The less expensive item isn't always the better investment.

A stylist helps you stop thinking only about the price tag and start thinking about the value a piece brings to your wardrobe.

A Stylist Can Help You Save Money

Yes, you read that correctly.

Working with a stylist can actually help you spend less.

How many items are currently hanging in your closet with the tags still attached?

How many shoes have you purchased because they were on sale but never worn?

How many times have you bought an entire outfit for one event and never touched it again?

Those purchases add up.

A stylist helps you shop with a strategy.

Instead of buying five random pieces, we may identify the two pieces that will help you create ten new outfits with what you already own.

That's the difference between shopping for clothes and building a wardrobe.

Your Body Is Not the Problem

This is one of the conversations I have with women that matters most to me.

I hear women say:

"I can't wear that."

"My stomach is too big."

"My arms are too big."

"I'm too short."

"I'm too tall."

"I need to lose weight first."

And sometimes, the problem isn't your body.

The problem is the cut, fit, proportion, or styling of the garment.

Not every trend is designed for every body—and that's okay.

Style isn't about forcing yourself into what everyone else is wearing.

It's about understanding how to make clothing work for you.

Sometimes changing the shoe changes the entire proportion of an outfit.

Sometimes adding structure creates balance.

Sometimes a different neckline completely changes how a garment looks.

Sometimes the item simply doesn't fit correctly.

And sometimes?

That piece just isn't for you.

There is freedom in knowing that.

Your job is not to make your body work for the clothes.

The clothes should work for you.

How the Brain feels with getting dressed or going shopping.
How the Brain feels with getting dressed or going shopping.

Styling Is About Your Lifestyle

A wardrobe should support the life you actually live.

Not the fantasy life you shop for.

If you work in a corporate environment, your wardrobe needs to support that.

If you travel frequently, you need versatile pieces that pack well and create multiple outfits.

If you're an entrepreneur, your clothing may be part of your personal brand.

If you're constantly attending networking events, galas, weddings, brunches, or community events, your wardrobe should make getting dressed easier—not more stressful.

And if your life has changed, your wardrobe may need to change with it.

That's why personal styling is personal.

What works for one woman may make absolutely no sense for another.

Styling Doesn't Have to Be Expensive

This is something I want more women to understand.

You do not need a celebrity budget to receive styling assistance.

As a Senior Stylist at AKIRA, I offer complimentary styling appointments in-store.

Yes.

Complimentary.

There is no styling fee to work with me while shopping the AKIRA collection.

If you have an upcoming birthday, vacation, wedding, concert, networking event, date night, career opportunity, or simply want to refresh your wardrobe, you can book an appointment and receive personalized styling assistance.

We'll talk about what you need.

We'll explore pieces that work for your body and lifestyle.

We'll create complete looks.

And whenever possible, I'll help you think beyond one outfit and show you how pieces can work with other items in your wardrobe.

My goal isn't simply to help you buy something.

My goal is to help you understand why it works.

And if what you need goes beyond what I can find for you within the AKIRA collection, I also offer private personal styling and shopping services outside of my role at AKIRA.

Because at the end of the day, my job is to help women feel prepared for the life they're walking into.

Behind the Rack 👜

One of my favorite moments as a stylist happens when a woman walks out of the fitting room wearing something she never would have chosen for herself.

She looks in the mirror.

Then she looks again.

Her posture changes.

The smile comes.

And usually, I hear something like:

"I would have never picked this up."

That's the power of having another perspective.

Sometimes we become so comfortable with what we've always worn that we stop imagining ourselves differently.

A stylist doesn't erase who you are.

A good stylist helps you see more possibilities within who you already are.

🍷 Style Sip of the Week

Before buying your next piece of clothing, ask yourself three questions:

Where am I wearing it?

What do I already own that works with it?

Can I style it at least three different ways?

If you can't answer those questions, you may not need it.

Put it back.

Your closet—and your bank account—may thank you later.

✨ Your Closet Challenge

This week, find one item in your closet that you haven't worn in at least six months.

Before you donate it, give it one more chance.

Try styling it with something unexpected.

Change the shoe.

Add a blazer.

Add a belt.

Layer it.

Dress it up.

Dress it down.

You may discover that you didn't dislike the piece.

You simply didn't know how to style it.

And if you still don't love it?

Release it.

Your closet should support the woman you are today.

Need More Personalized Help? Book a Personal Style Consultation

Maybe you're not ready to shop yet.

Maybe you simply have questions.

Maybe you're standing in front of a closet full of clothes and wondering:

Where do I even begin?

That's where a personal style consultation can help.

During a consultation, we can talk about where you are now, where you want your style to go, what's working in your current wardrobe, what's no longer serving you, and the best next steps for your lifestyle and goals.

Your consultation can be the starting point for:

  • Updating or rebuilding your wardrobe.

  • Identifying wardrobe gaps.

  • Understanding your personal style.

  • Preparing for a career or lifestyle transition.

  • Creating a more polished professional image.

  • Shopping with more intention.

  • Getting answers to the style questions you've been afraid—or unsure—how to ask.

You don't have to book a complete wardrobe transformation to ask for help.

Sometimes one conversation can give you the clarity you need to finally move forward.

Whether you choose a complimentary in-store styling experience at AKIRA or a private consultation with me through Alwayz A Lady, the goal is the same:

To help you feel more confident, intentional, and prepared for the life you're living—and the life you're building.

Until Next Tuesday...

You don't have to be rich to work with a stylist.

You don't even need a special occasion.

Sometimes you simply need help getting dressed for the life you're building.

And that's what styling is really about.

It's not about making you look like someone else.

It's about helping you show up as the most confident version of yourself.
